Already in the first days of your stay in Hurghada, the ubiquitous shops with local merchants begin to suggest that finding a regular store or supermarket here is at least difficult. But there are shops in Hurghada where everything is civilized, no one invites you, no one invites you to have tea, write a review, or just talk or ask. These are chain supermarkets with fixed prices and cash registers. You don’t need to bargain here, and most importantly, you can quickly fill your basket with everything you need.
Sometimes prices for some products in such supermarkets are much lower than street ones, and there are discounts and promotions every week. The biggest special offers are before the New Year and Ramadan. We have collected information on the largest supermarket chains in Hurghada.
Abu Ashara Group (Abu Ashara Group). This chain of stores has both large and small supermarkets throughout Hurghada. A wide selection of food and everyday goods attracts not only foreigners, but also local residents. Supermarket locations: Sheraton Street, New Marina, Promenade — opposite the Sultan Beach Hotel and next to the Marlin Inn, Sakkala, El Nasr Street in Dahar. The latter includes not only groceries and consumer goods, it is also a home goods store where you can buy dishes, bedding and household appliances.
Metro (METRO Network). There are 3 large supermarkets: at the beginning of the main street El Nasr in Dahar, in El Kawther and in Sheraton. In Hurghada, METRO is an ordinary supermarket of a fairly large size, and despite the somewhat high prices, it is very popular, since the products and goods in the Metro are always of high quality. There is a home delivery service, it costs about 10 pounds.
Hamed son’s Market (Hamed San). These are small shops where, in addition to the standard set of products, you can buy ready-made Egyptian cuisine at affordable prices. The largest store is located in El Kawther, near the Egyptian hospital. In terms of assortment, it is inferior to Metro and Abu-Ashara. Although the prices are fixed here, there is a small problem — they are not indicated on the products, you have to find out at the checkout. Late in the evening, inexpensive and fresh fruits and vegetables are delivered to Hamed San, not sold during the day at the market in Dahar.
Spinneys (Spinness). The largest hypermarket in Hurghada. The hotel is located in the Senzo Mall (Senzo Mall) south of Magawish, close to the Jungle Aqua Park Hotel. A one-way taxi ride will cost about £ 15 and a shuttle bus £ 2.50. We highly recommend all newcomers to Hurghada to visit Spinness, where you can find everything for your home, from rugs for the entrance hall, ending with plastic furniture, all accessories for the kitchen, bathroom, etc. But the most important thing is that Spinneys always stocks fruits at special prices, a large selection of meat, dairy products, cereals, and seafood. We recommend vegetables, cooked food, as well as various sweets, nuts, pastries. In addition to shops and boutiques, Senzo Mall has many cafes and restaurants, clothing stores, and a cinema. Around Senzo, there is a well-groomed area with fountains, everything is clean and beautiful — a real attraction of Hurghada!
Ebeid (Ebeid). Supermarket chain with outlets in Sakkale at the beginning of Sheraton, on the Promenade next to Sinbad Aquapark Hotel. Supermarkets target tourists.
You can often hear from tour guides and staff of tour companies that in Egypt you can live on $ 100 a month. This is true, but the products will only need to be purchased from the local market (El Suk).
The market in Dahar is the center of trade in Hurghada, where the freshest greens, vegetables, fruits and meat are delivered daily. But you can go there if you are ready to plunge into this exoticism of simple rural Egyptians. Here it is, a real oriental bazaar! Prices are often written in local numbers, so it’s best to understand these numbers and speak a little Arabic. It is also better to buy spices and some cereals on the market — well, prices are very pleasant here!
For fresh fish and seafood, it is better to go to the fish market. It is located in Sakkala, next to the new mosque and the port of Hurghada. For a small surcharge, the fish will be cut, cleaned and chopped, or even grilled.
Remember that consumer rights are protected by Egyptian law. If you happen to buy expired products or low-quality goods, then if you have a receipt, the situation can be resolved.
Another recommendation when going to the supermarket or the market is not to be afraid of new things, there are a lot of products in Egypt that are worth trying and that will become your favorite dishes on the table!
