Coming to live or work in Egypt, foreigners think over their future to the smallest detail: where they will live, work, what they will do at their leisure. An equally important problem is the future education of children. The Egyptian education system is very different from the Russian one, having both its pluses and minuses.
Kindergartens in Egypt
The first educational institution that children and their parents living in Egypt will have to face is kindergartens. Unlike Russia, in Egypt kindergartens are usually private institutions, so there are usually no problems with enrolling children in kindergartens — it is enough to have the required amount. The child is in kindergarten until the age of 4, after which the first stage of real education begins — a two-year course of preschool education.
Preschool and school education
Education in Egypt is designed in such a way that before entering primary school, you must first take a KG preschool course. Lessons in the preschool course are played in a playful way, which helps to attract the attention of kids to learning. After completing the preschool course, the child enters school, which are of three types — public, private and religious schools in Azhar.
Public schools are available only to Egyptian citizens, foreigners have no way to go to government institutions, however, children from mixed families may also have problems with admission to a public school. Problems with admission to a private school usually do not arise — there are two main points upon admission: the availability of the necessary amount to pay for tuition and the presence of a KG preschool education certificate (some prestigious private schools have their own preschool education courses and are reluctant to accept children who have taken a KG course in another location).
School education in Egypt is divided into primary (up to grade 6) and secondary, which, in turn, includes two three-year courses — Secondary and Preparatory (grades 7 to 9 and 10 to 12, respectively). When moving to grade 10, a student chooses a specialization for himself — humanitarian, mathematical or general scientific. At the end of their studies, students take a single exam, based on the results of which they can apply for a place in a higher educational institution.
Secondary specialized and higher education
After school, future students choose which way to move on — to receive secondary special education or apply for a place in one of the Egyptian universities. Receiving specialized secondary (or pedagogical) education takes place on the basis of various technical schools, institutes and teacher training colleges and takes from two to three years. Those wishing to get higher education can choose between public and private universities, depending on their financial capabilities, knowledge of foreign languages and the results of a single exam. Education in Egyptian universities takes place in three stages — bachelor’s, master’s and postgraduate studies. The bulk of Egyptian students are content with a bachelor’s degree and do not continue their studies after the first three-year general course.
Religious education Azhar
Separately, it is worth noting the already mentioned system of religious education Azhar. Theology is the basis of education in Azhar schools, but students also study non-religious subjects, although they receive less attention. All students in religious schools in Azhar are Muslims, and the only university they can enter after school is the oldest Muslim spiritual university in Egypt, Al-Azhar.
