Coins and currency of Egypt.
the official currency in Egypt is the Egyptian pound (EGP — Egyptian pound)
its designation in stores and exchange offices is L.E.
in 1 pound 100 piastres (alternative to our kopecks)
1 dollar approximately 16 pounds
In the exchangers of your country, you most likely will not find Egyptian pounds. You will first have to change your currency to dollars or euros, and they are already in place — to pounds. In some exchange offices in Egypt, it is possible to exchange rubles, hryvnia, British pounds, Swiss francs, etc. per pounds, but the rate will be much higher. There are very few such exchangers, so it is better to come right away with dollars or euros.
In most cases, dollars and euros can be paid, while the dollar will be more profitable — there are less pounds in 1 dollar than in 1 euro, and the Egyptians like to round up prices. If in stores with cash desks (like METRO) foreign currency will not be accepted from you, then in markets, in stalls, cafes and when buying excursions it is taken without problems. However, I always advise buying pounds — it is much more profitable. Credit cards are not widely used here, it is better to have cash with you.
Keep in mind that you will not see price tags in many shops and souvenir shops, you will have to ask the seller. And most likely, the price will be overpriced, so you have to bargain. Always negotiate the price for a taxi ride in advance.
! Advice: Egyptians are always more accommodating in terms of prices for “their own”. Therefore, it will not be superfluous to learn Arabic numerals in order to bargain in Arabic. You know the language — it means you live here or fly often. That is, you are «local» and you will not be fooled. Most likely, in this case the price will be given to you less than for «tourists».
