The Egyptian authorities decided to attract additional tourists by canceling the visa fee for the summer time, which was collected from travelers at the country’s airports and was equal to 15 dollars. Experts believe that although this measure will not significantly increase the flow of tourists to the country of the Pyramids, it has demonstrated the new government’s interest in developing tourism.
So, according to Egyptian sources, from June 1 to August 31 of this year, tourists arriving in Egypt will be exempted from paying the visa fee, and instead of a visa stamp, they will only have an entry stamp in their passport, which will give them the right to stay in the country for up to 30 days. “We got this information only yesterday. And while I don’t think any tourists were embarrassed by the need to pay $ 15, the very move by the Egyptian government is symbolic. After all, he clearly demonstrated that tourism is important for Egypt, and that the country will fight for every tourist, ”Aleksey Zalivin, executive director of the Egyptian host travel agency ALS-tour, told the TURPROM newsgroup.
It is noteworthy that free entry of tourists to part of the territory of Egypt was practiced earlier: according to the Camp David Agreements of 1978-79 on the conclusion of the Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty, Egypt pledged to allow any foreigners into the territory of the Sinai Peninsula without visas and without any monetary fees. Tourists who knew this information did not pay money for a visa upon arrival in Sharm El Sheikh, but instead of a visa stamp they were only given an entry stamp. However, tourists could no longer travel outside the Sinai using such a stamp; therefore, excursions to Cairo and Luxor were not available for them.
