The main document for the opening of Egypt — an agreement on aviation security, is ready for signing between the governments of the two countries. The next visit of the Russian delegation is expected in Cairo in the coming days. This information was reported yesterday by representatives of the Egyptian parliament. According to preliminary data announced by the Russian government, Egypt is ready to fulfill the requirements of the Russian Federation on the aviation security of airports by the end of this year or no later than January 2017. Thus, the opening of Egypt for Russian tourists can be expected with a high degree of probability at the beginning of next year — no later than the first quarter. Moreover, Vladimir Putin also gave this hope in his recent conversation with the President of Egypt …
“The Parliamentary Tourism Committee met with Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister Sheriff Fathi to get acquainted with the latest developments in the situation around the lifting of the ban on flights between Moscow and Cairo. The meeting also concerned the discussion of an agreement on aviation security, which is ready for signing by government representatives … An invitation will be sent to Russian experts to familiarize themselves with security measures at airports and prepare for signing the agreement, «RIA Novosti quoted a source from the Egyptian parliament as saying. At the same time, according to available data, the arrival of the Russian commission to prepare the signing of the agreement in the country is expected in the coming days.
Let us remind you that on Monday the next “milestone of opening” of Egypt was marked by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Arkady Dvorkovich. According to him, Egypt is ready to fulfill the requirements of the Russian Federation on the aviation security of airports by the end of this year or in January 2017. “Our Egyptian colleagues said that either by the end of the year or in January (2017) they will complete the work that we agreed on, which were related to our recommendations. There are literally one — two questions left, ”he said, explaining the question about the discovery of Egypt. At the same time, according to him, a decision on Cairo can be made faster, resort airports will need more time.
Note that the next delegation of Russian aviation specialists to check the fulfillment of airport security requirements in Egypt is expected in the first half of 2017, said the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Maxim Sokolov. “This will be, according to our calculations, the first half of next year. I hope that this will probably be the first quarter, ”he said. At the same time, according to him, Egypt has made significant progress in implementing the requirements for ensuring airport security.
Among the requirements for the restoration of air communication with Egypt, first of all, the Russian side requires the installation of a biometric personnel access system at Egyptian airports. All other measures to enhance aviation security (installation of video cameras, reinforcement of security detachments around the perimeter of airports or the airport complexes themselves, improvement of baggage control elements) have already been completed.
We also remind you that a week ago Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with the President of Egypt, where, in addition to the Middle East policy, the most pressing topic for Russian and Egyptian tourism was discussed — the resumption of air traffic between our countries. Most notably, the Kremlin’s official report on this conversation contains the following encouraging words: «giving grounds for the resumption of regular flights between Moscow and Cairo in the near future» …
Thus, the message reads: “On the initiative of the Egyptian side, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah Sisi. <...> During the exchange of views on topical topics of the bilateral agenda, the leaders noted the results of the joint work of Russian and Egyptian aviation security experts and representatives of the special services, which give grounds for the resumption of regular flights between Moscow and Cairo in the near future. «
