In cut, snow in Egypt covered the entire area around the famous Monastery of St. Catherine, located in South Sinai. From Sharm el-Sheikh — the main resort of Sinai, to the Monastery of St. Catherine about 200 km or 2.5-3 hours on a tourist bus. Usually tourists leave late in the evening to climb Mount Moses at dawn, where he received the 10 Commandments from God.
This weather anomaly led to the villagers around the monastery and tourists enjoying the snowy streets, children making snowmen and throwing snowballs at each other. Hamid Abu Galba, one of the villages, commented on this anomaly: “This is real fun for everyone. Snow falls and people go out to enjoy the snowy weather as if they were on vacation. ”
Director of the South Sinai Operations Center, Youssef Mohamed Ahmed, noted that all types of tourism in Sharm el-Sheikh, such as excursion programs, desert safari trips in jeeps and bikes, function normally, despite light rain and snow. All roads in the Sinai are open to visitors and tourists.
