Another 31 hotels in the resorts of Egypt have resumed receiving tourists from this week. As a result, the number of operating hotels in Egypt rose to 572, said Abdel-Fattah al-Aasi, a spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism.
According to him, the work of 31 more hotels was restored after they received an official document on hygienic safety (in the common people — an antique certificate), issued on the basis of an expert examination from the Ministry of Tourism and the Egyptian Ministry of Health. At the same time, while hotels have the right to work only with limited occupancy.
Let us remind you that Egypt «restarted» the operation of hotels in mid-May for domestic tourism. Since July 1, the country has opened the most popular resorts for tourists — first of all, Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh. The opening is being carried out in a «coexistence plan» mode to support anti-coronavirus protective procedures when economic activity resumes.
Also last Saturday, a statement was made that Egypt is ready to begin negotiations with Russia on the resumption of air traffic to the Red Sea resorts, which was interrupted back in November 2015 in connection with the disaster of a Russian liner in the Sinai due to a terrorist attack. This information was announced by the Deputy Minister of Tourism Khada Shalabi to the Egyptian media. Obviously, the Egyptians are intensifying these negotiations against the backdrop of ongoing consultations between the authorities of Russia and Turkey on the resumption of flights and tourism (details of the start date of flights are here), rightly believing that Egypt is no less important partner of Russia than Turkey, and its resorts are no less safe than Antalya.
“We hope to resume flights from Russia to Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada and we will welcome such a decision by Russia. We know that Russian tourists love these resorts and we are ready to deal with all the relevant procedures and requirements of Russia. Our immediate plans are to hold talks with Russia and find out what other comments there are, ”the deputy minister said.
She also stressed that Egypt is taking the necessary preventive measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in tourist areas. Moreover, even in such a huge city as Cairo, she said, «conditions have been created for the entry of travelers» to recreation areas, including social distances and disinfection. “The possibility of transmission of the virus in hotels and tourist sites is small,” Ms Shalabi stressed, noting that provinces that resume tourism are “isolated” from areas severely affected by the coronavirus. In hotels, all staff go through two weeks of self-isolation before starting work. At the same time, before the trip, the tourist must receive a document indicating that he has not been in contact with a patient with COVID-19.
At the same time, due to the lack of direct flights from Russia, tourists from Ukraine and Belarus became the main clients of these resorts. Moreover, Russian tourists also come to Egypt through Belarus.
