Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov intends to discuss the prospects for the return of Russian tourists to this country during his visit to Egypt on March 20-21.
“I think that we will be able to hear some assessments of the prospects for the return of the tourist flow to this country,” RIA Novosti quotes the official representative of the Foreign Ministry, Alexander Lukashevich.
Recall that due to the political unrest that arose on January 25 in Cairo and other large cities of Egypt, officials of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Federal Tourism Agency and Rospotrebnadzor decided to play it safe and banned the sale of tours to the Red Sea resorts of Egypt, effectively forcing tour operators to evacuate tourists from Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh on their own. This put many travel agencies on the brink of ruin: according to ATOR’s estimates, the total losses of the Russian tourist business from the actions of officials can reach $ 125 million.
At the same time, starting from February 28, most European countries resumed flights to resorts, and on this day 25 charter flights were accepted, which delivered about 2.8 thousand tourists. At the same time, an attempt on March 1 by the tour operator Pegas Turistik, together with Aeroflot, to restore the dispatch of Russian tourists on vacation to Egypt, without waiting for permission for such flights, failed. Pegasus had to literally remove about 600 tourists from flights to Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh.
