Vladimir Pligin, the head of the State Duma Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Construction, promised during a reception at the Egyptian embassy that Russian tourists would soon return to «their favorite vacation spots on the Egyptian Red Sea coast.» According to him, the agreements on air communication have almost reached the final point. An additional confirmation of this, he called the imminent opening of the Russian Consulate General in Hurghada, which will begin functioning in the near future.
“For Russians, Egypt is one of their favorite vacation spots, and they are reciprocated in your country. Confirmation of the desire to expand cooperation in this area was the decision to open the Consulate General of Russia in Hurghada, which should begin functioning in the very near future, «- quoted by TASS Vladimir Pligin. The deputy also assured the Egyptian side that in the near future Russian tourists will return to Egyptian resorts.
“The specialists of our countries are actively working to improve the safety of flights on direct flights. Much has already been done. The next step is to take steps that could finalize this work and give the result so desirable for both sides, ”the deputy noted.
Recall, before the New Year, representatives of the Egyptian parliament said that the main document for the opening of Egypt — an agreement on aviation security, is ready for signing between the governments of the two countries. According to preliminary data announced by the Russian government, Egypt is ready to fulfill the requirements of the Russian Federation on the aviation security of airports by the end of this year or no later than January 2017. Thus, the opening of Egypt for Russian tourists can be expected with a high degree of probability in early 2017 — no later than the first quarter. Moreover, Vladimir Putin also gave this hope in his recent conversation with the President of Egypt, where, in addition to the Middle East policy, the most pressing topic for Russian and Egyptian tourism was discussed — the resumption of flights between our countries. Most notably, the Kremlin’s official report on this conversation contains the following encouraging words: «giving grounds for the resumption of regular flights between Moscow and Cairo in the near future» …
Recall that the final commission of the Ministry of Transport is already in Egypt, and the final checks of the airports of Cairo, Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh are expected until January 20, after which an agreement on aviation security is expected to be signed, which will be a direct step towards opening air traffic.
The Egyptian side, meanwhile, is already making plans for the «sequence» of opening flights with Russia. At the moment, the main requirement of the Russian Federation — the installation of biometric control for personnel — is performed at the Sharm el-Sheikh airport and is being carried out in Hurghada. Accordingly, the opening of the country in Egypt is expected according to the «Turkish» principle — first they will allow regular flights to Cairo, and then — charter programs to Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh. “Restoring transportation involves two directions. First, the return of regular flights between Moscow and Cairo at the level of the designated carriers Aeroflot and EgyptAir. The next stage is charters. To prepare for it, security measures are now underway at Sharm el-Sheikh airport in accordance with new technologies in preparation for the inspection by the Russian side, «commented a member of the board of directors of the Egyptian holding company for airport management and the ex-head of the Union of Tourism Chambers. Egypt’s Ilham al-Zayat.
