Egypt opened from July 1 to foreign tourists. Hotels in the resorts of the Red Sea have been «restarted» in the country; museums and archaeological sites are also gradually opening. The hotels are still operating at 50% capacity.
At the same time, the country has adopted its own safety rules for tourists in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. Here are their main points:
Before getting on board:
Before boarding, all travelers must complete a copy of the Traveler’s Declaration Form, including information about the person’s travel history for the past 14 days. As for tourists arriving from countries declared by WHO as «seriously infected» with COVID-19, they will also have to submit the results of a PCR test done no later than 48 hours before the travel date. At airports, “normal security measures” of wearing masks and keeping distance must be followed.
In a hotel:
All hotels will be required to comply with the latest protocols and obtain a «Hygiene Safety Certificate» issued by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Population and the relevant Tourism Chamber. Information on hygiene and safety rules will also be available to all tourists.
All tourists must pass a mandatory temperature check before entering the hotel and maintain physical distancing even inside the elevators. All rooms will be disinfected and ventilated for 12 hours between the departure and arrival of tourists. Personal protective equipment kits (masks, gloves and hand sanitizers) will be provided in the rooms.
The capacity of the hotel rooms is two adults with two children (up to 12 years old).
Although the pools will be available, the jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and massage services are currently on hold. The casino will be allowed to operate, but 50 percent.
Parties, social events and events are prohibited.
Buffet meals are prohibited in restaurants. A maximum of 6 people are allowed at the table.
Excursions:
It is allowed to go on excursions in groups of no more than 25 people.
Discounts:
Tourists arriving directly to the Red Sea, South Sinai, Matruh, Luxor and Aswan will be exempted from paying visa fees until October 31, 2020.
Airlines will have a 50% discount on boarding at airports until October 31. It is assumed that this will make it possible to reduce the cost of air tickets for tourists.
Tourists arriving on Egypt Air and Air Cairo also enjoy a 20% discount on admission tickets to the High Council of Antiquities archaeological sites and museums.
If a tourist gets sick with coronavirus in Egypt:
the hotel will pay for accommodation, food and drinks for «light» cases. Critical cases will be taken to hospital. The Ministry of Health and Population will cover the medical and treatment costs for tourists who test positive for COVID-19 until they recover. Those who live in rooms with people who test positive will also be able to undergo a free medical examination at the Ministry of Health and Population.
