After two months of restoration work, the second of the three famous pyramids of Egypt in Giza, the pyramid of Khafre, was opened for tourists. According to the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, it is said that the pyramid is ready to receive tourists.
Ashraf Mohi al-Din, director of the Giza Plateau, told Travel NewsDay that the stairs leading to the pyramid were restored, changes were made to its internal lighting system, and weaknesses in its corridors and burial chamber were strengthened. In the near future, the third pyramid, the Pyramid of Mikerin, will be closed for restoration.
Recall that in total, the Giza Pyramids complex includes three pyramids — Cheops, Khafre and Mikerin, as well as the famous Sphinx. They are considered mandatory components of excursions in Cairo for tourists.
Let’s remind that Russian tourists are already «allowed» to visit Cairo. At the same time, the opening of charters to the resorts of Egypt is still in question. “We will strive to resume charter flights to Egyptian resorts in the near future,” the Russian President said at a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart in mid-October. So far, this is only a political decision, and its implementation may drag on indefinitely — from several weeks to several months, as was the case with the opening of flights to Cairo, the start of which lasted for 4 months. At the same time, tour operators and airlines need a little time to deliver charters to Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh — all they need is a signal from the aviation authorities. It is more difficult with the «ground» — hotels in Egypt have already adapted to the lack of Russian tourist flow, and so successfully that they even raised prices. The TURPROM newsgroup correspondent tried to ask the experts about the prices in the hotels of Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh, as well as their load and readiness to receive Russian tourists.
“Our Egyptian friends are doing everything necessary to improve security. We will strive to resume charter flights on these routes in the near future, ”said Vladimir Putin. Also earlier on Wednesday, the head of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, Yevgeny Dietrich, announced that Russia and Egypt had agreed to send Russian experts to the country of the Pyramids to check security issues to resume direct flights with the resorts of Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh. However, he refrained from answering the question of when such a group would be able to travel to Egypt.
At the resorts of the Red Sea, our tourists are expected, however, Egyptian hotels have largely found a replacement for us, at least this summer they were almost completely packed, especially in Hurghada. “In the summer, there was a shortage of rooms in Hurghada for the first time in several years. There were a lot of Germans and Englishmen, especially before the poisoning story at the Steigenberger. In addition to them, tourists from Eastern Europe and Arab countries are actively traveling to Hurghada and Sharm. Most of the Egyptian hotels, previously oriented towards the Russian market, have long since reoriented themselves. Let me give you an illustrative example: yesterday I talked with the manager of one of the 5-star hotels in Hurghada, which before the terrorist attack was 95% focused on tourists from Russia, but even this hotel was able to diversify its suppliers and has now achieved 75% occupancy, which is very good. Therefore, our tourists should not expect dumping prices from hotels, «- Sergey Zalivin, director of the Egyptian receiving travel agency» ALS-tour «, explained to the correspondent of the TURPROM information group.
