The likely opening of Egypt by mid-spring raises a logical question — how will this affect prices for domestic resorts, which may lose a fairly large number of tourists who decide to exchange them for Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh immediately after their opening? The fact that the permission of charters for Egyptian resorts will inevitably affect prices in Turkey, although not immediately, we already wrote in the article «The opening of Egypt will deprive Turkey of 1 million Russian tourists, prices will fall.»
But the domestic Russian travel market will remain calm: experts are sure that Turkey is more likely to worry about the return of Egypt than the Krasnodar Territory and Crimea. However, everything will depend on prices — if the Egyptian resorts, primarily experiencing a shortage of tourists Sharm el-Sheikh, «marketing efforts» reduce prices, then there are some chances to lure away part of the tourist flow from Russian resorts, Egypt has.
“Everything will depend on the prices given by the hotels in Egypt. At the same time, on the one hand, there is no particular reason to count on low prices. For example, in Hurghada, according to the latest relevant data, there is a shortage of rooms in good liquid hotels. The fact is that the decline of the Russian market there has been successfully compensated, for example, the same Europe has expanded — therefore it is simply pointless to wait for low prices, «Aleksey Zalivin, a representative of the tour operator Biblio Globus in Crimea, and the host Egyptian travel agency ALS-Tour. A different picture, according to the expert, is emerging in the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh: there is underutilization there, so hotels may well give good prices. “But the question is, to what extent are Russian tourists ready to have a rest in Sharm el-Sheikh, and in such a volume that it will be reflected in domestic destinations?” The expert added.
At the same time, so far everything is fine on the domestic Russian routes. “According to my estimates, domestic destinations have a different client, a Turkish-Egyptian client has been in Crimea, but in the opposite direction — for a Crimean client to go to Egypt is a rarity. In addition, in 2019, Crimea was well filled with tourists, and this year we also expect positive dynamics, ”said Alexey Zalivin.
“Although the key issue will still be the price. In Sharm El Sheikh, there is a possibility that hotels will make extreme efforts to lower prices for profitability levels solely in order to reclaim our tourists. At the same time, I would like to note that good hotels in Crimea keep quite high prices. But even if some of the tourists are drawn to Egypt, it will not cause serious damage to our resorts, ”Alexey Zalivin is sure.
The experts of the domestic travel market generally adhere to the same positions. “On the domestic market, we see that the start of booking is moving closer and closer to January. Now a tourist who buys a tour to a domestic resort gets a double benefit — early booking discounts with us, plus cheap regular transportation, because the prices for a / b are now at the level of RUB 7-8 thousand, and in May they will double in price ”, — said Sergey Romashkin. According to his estimates, there are fewer and fewer “hunters” for hot tours on the travel market — accordingly, fewer and those willing to change direction at the last moment.
“As for Egypt, firstly, it is more of a competitor for Turkey — it is an“ all inclusive ”tourist, a tourist with a passport, which is far from all clients of Russian resorts. But even for Turkey, Egypt has never been a serious competitor for the summer — out of a million tourists in the summer, 150-200 thousand arrived in Egypt. Taking into account the fact that according to official statistics, Crimea receives about 90 thousand tourists per day, it is unlikely that we we can even notice, ”summed up Sergey Romashkin.
By the way, the fall in prices in some areas has already begun, and the reason for this is the coronavirus. This is described in more detail in the material «Thai baht has reached a 7-month low, hotel prices have begun to fall.» Therefore, if you are not afraid of horror stories about the coronavirus, monitor the prices for holidays in Thailand — and Turprom will help you with this, periodically publishing the best prices.
