Russian tourists are beginning to «discover» Egypt. Air ticket sales for Russian tourists to the Egyptian capital Cairo were opened by the national carrier Aeroflot. According to the Egyptian media, the first flights are scheduled for August 8-9.
The carrier’s website, in turn, contains the following information:
The Moscow — Cairo flight will start on Sunday, August 16: flights are expected daily at 20:45 with arrival at 00:35. The starting price of tickets is ₽ 10’672.
The flight Cairo — Moscow opens on Tuesday, August 18: departure at 01:40, arrival in Moscow at 07:20, starting price RUB 12’846.

«In case of delay, travelers can either postpone the ticket for another day or get their money back,» Egyptian media said. Here you can add a fly in the ointment: Aeroflot has already become involved in the air scandal: on July 30, the All-Russian Association of Passengers asked the Federal Air Transport Agency to ban Aeroflot from selling tickets for flights to “undiscovered” countries, primarily the EU. “Passengers, a couple of days before departure, receive a message from the airline about the cancellation of the flight due to the lack of permission for an international flight,” and cannot refund the money, since the airline offers them vouchers for future flights instead, the appeal says.
Nevertheless, Egypt is most likely included in the list of 30 countries that are negotiating with Russia to open borders. At least, even before the news of the first open countries, the fact that Egypt is ready to start negotiations with Russia on the resumption of air traffic to the Red Sea resorts was announced by the Deputy Minister of Tourism Khada Shalabi to the Egyptian media. Experts interviewed by a correspondent of the TURPROM information group are sure that the opening of Turkey will intensify the efforts of the Egyptian side, since they believe that Egypt is no less important partner of Russia than Turkey, and its resorts are at least no less safe than Antalya.
“We hope to resume flights from Russia to Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada and we will welcome such a decision by Russia. We know that Russian tourists love these resorts and we are ready to deal with all the relevant procedures and requirements of Russia. Our immediate plans are to hold talks with Russia and find out what other comments there are, ”the deputy minister said.
She also stressed that Egypt is taking the necessary preventive measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in tourist areas. Moreover, even in such a huge city as Cairo, she said, «conditions have been created for the entry of travelers» to recreation areas, including social distances and disinfection.
“The possibility of transmission of the virus in hotels and tourist sites is small,” Ms Shalabi stressed, noting that provinces that resume tourism are “isolated” from areas severely affected by the coronavirus. In hotels, all staff go through two weeks of self-isolation before starting work. At the same time, before the trip, the tourist must receive a document indicating that he has not been in contact with a patient with COVID-19.
Russian tourists and travel agencies are waiting for the opening of Egypt, probably no less than Turkey, and possibly more, because holidays in Egypt are traditionally cheaper. At the same time, even before the «closure», Russian representatives of the tourist retail made an appeal to the government and personally to Mikhail Mishustin with a request to open Egypt. «Dear Mikhail Vladimirovich, we ask you to instruct the interested ministries and departments with the participation of representatives of the professional tourism market to develop and approve an action plan for the resumption of air traffic between the Russian Federation and the Arab Republic of Egypt,» said the letter from the Alliance of Travel Agencies (ATA). The letter goes on to provide detailed arguments for the urgent need to open Egypt. “Taking into account the geographical position and climatic features of Russia, during the autumn-winter season, the main flow of tourists choosing a beach holiday is directed to foreign resorts in the tropical and subtropical zones. One of such destinations is the countries of North Africa, including Egypt, trips to which were for many years one of the most popular among Russians due to the affordable cost and variety of cultural and entertainment programs, «Natalia Osipova, executive director of ATA, explained to the correspondent of the TURPROM information group. …
