Another «step towards» Russia and tourism in general was made by the Egyptian authorities — the Russian vaccine against coronavirus «Sputnik V» is registered in the country. This was announced by the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
“RDIF announces registration of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus Sputnik V by the Egyptian Drug Authority,” the statement said. It also notes that Egypt has become the 35th state in the world to approve the use of the Sputnik V vaccine. The Egyptian Medicines Authority has registered the vaccine under an emergency use authorization (EUA). «We thank the Egyptian partners for their trust and we hope to make a feasible contribution to protecting the population of a friendly country from the coronavirus infection,» the Russian Embassy in Cairo added.
Recall that this was an expected step towards meeting in the framework of the next discussed opening of Egypt. He is expected in March. The Egypt Today newspaper, which refers to the head of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, Ashraf Neuer, stated that the Egyptian Aviation Authority has already issued the Russian airline Nordwind Airlines, affiliated with the tour operator Pegas Turtik, permission to operate four direct flights a week to Sharm El. -Sheikh and Hurghada starting from March 28, t. this airline was the first to submit such a request. At the same time, the official noted that the frequency of flights will be increased as soon as other carriers submit their applications.
At the same time, the Russian aviation regulator, Rosaviatsia, officially denied the statement of the Egyptian colleagues about the opening of Egyptian resorts. However, the refutation of this information by the Russian department is generally logical, because so far no official statements have been made about Egypt from the Russian side. Obviously, the final decision on this matter is not made by the Federal Air Transport Agency, but by higher authorities, therefore, the aviation officials clearly do not intend to «run ahead of the locomotive.» Moreover, according to Turkish media reports, the issue of starting charter flights from Russia to Egypt is among the issues that will be put on the agenda of the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with his Egyptian counterpart Abdul Fattah al-Sisi during the Russian President’s visit to Egypt in March.
Earlier, Russian tour operators gave their forecast on prices to Turprom. Read the details in the article «Discovering Egypt through the eyes of a tour operator: what prices in Hurghada can Russian tourists expect».
By the way, Egypt is not the only tourist country that has given the green light to the Russian coronavirus vaccine. Tunisia also announced its intention to vaccinate 5 million local residents or slightly less than half of the population in order to restore tourism — read the details at this link. At the same time, the Tunisian tourism office emphasizes that it was the Russian vaccine Sputnik-V that was chosen for this task.
