The «positive result» of the development of the tourism industry in Egypt after the opening of borders to tourists at the end of the spring phase of the pandemic, said the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt Khaled al-Anani to Daily News Egypt. According to him, Egypt received 500’000 tourists from the beginning of July, when inbound international flights to the country of the Pyramids resumed, and until November 14. These are really large numbers, especially in comparison with other countries popular with tourists: for example, Thailand has not yet opened its borders at all — only 648 tourists will visit the Kingdom in November, which looks just a mockery.
“These numbers are positive as two-thirds of the tourists coming to Egypt come from European countries, even though most countries on the continent have suspended travel,” al-Anani said. He also noted that about 15% of tourists came from Eastern Europe, including the post-Soviet space. Among them, first of all, tourists from Ukraine, Belarus, Serbia, Hungary, the Netherlands and Kazakhstan. There is also a small tourist flow from Russia: first of all, these are tourists who got to the resorts either through Cairo, or on the crossroads through Minsk or Istanbul. Tourists continue to arrive at the moment.
In addition, the Minister of Tourism separately stressed that Egypt does not intend to introduce new restrictions in the tourism sector. He said the number one priority is the health of both Egyptians and tourists. Therefore, museums and archaeological sites will remain open if precautions are taken.
