To combat the spread of coronavirus in the resorts of Egypt, the Chamber of Hospitality Enterprises, in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Ministry of Health of Egypt, has begun disinfection and sterilization procedures for all hotels and tourist facilities in Hurghada.
The head of the House, Maged Fawzi, explained to Egypt Today that this campaign to rehabilitate hotels in Hurghada is taking place as the first phase of an overall plan to fight the coronavirus. The next stage will be the transfer of hotel sanitation specialists to other tourist regions — primarily to Luxor, from where the epidemic began to spread in Egypt.
The disinfection and sanitation process is carried out by dedicated teams in each hotel in Hurghada, trained in accordance with international standards for sterilization procedures using materials approved by the Egyptian Ministry of Health. These teams disinfect all surfaces in contact with tourists every 3 hours: in public places, corridors, hotel rooms, elevators, stairs, on doorknobs, restaurants and cafes, entertainment venues, etc. The German company TUV-Nord was involved in monitoring the results of the rehabilitation.
Maged Fozi stressed that the Germans will also train Egyptians on how to work best in the event of a coronavirus in a hotel, training employees and simulating viral infections. Awareness raising programs will also be organized for hotel workers on ways to prevent and protect against coronavirus.
