Officials from the General Directorate of Veterinary Services of the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture announced that all pets entering or leaving the country with their owners will undergo a medical examination for the presence of coronavirus, as well as veterinary quarantine at ports of entry to check test results.
This solution is a precautionary measure against the possibility of transmission of the virus through domestic animals such as cats and dogs.
The World Health Organization previously said it was unlikely that pets could transmit the virus to humans.
“Although there was one case of a dog being infected in Hong Kong, there is no evidence to date that a dog, cat or any pet can transmit COVID-19. The coronavirus is mainly spread through the saliva spray that forms when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks. To protect yourself, wash your hands often and thoroughly, ”WHO WHO in early March.
However, the above quote was later removed from the WHO website.
Veterinary quarantine officials in Egypt were advised to coordinate with the Animal Health Research Institute to conduct laboratory tests on all domestic animals entering and leaving Egypt.
Wahid Refaat, a veterinarian working in the Egyptian governorate of the Red Sea, said the decision has already begun to be implemented in Hurghada, as there are enough foreign tourists who rent housing with their cats and dogs and do not want to leave the resort.
Also in Hurghada recently a hotel was opened for foreign tourists where you can stay with your pets.
Now in Hurghada there is an identification of such foreigners with their animals.
Veterinarians have called on the Red Sea security services to exclude the veterinary ambulance service in Hurghada from the night curfew imposed on March 25, so that any emergency pet illness can be responded to 24 hours a day and placed in the nearest veterinary clinic.
