Foreign tourists leaving Egypt via Cairo International Airport will have to pay an exit fee of $ 25 starting June 1. This measure, as reported to ITAR-TASS by the Ministry of Tourism, was introduced by the Egyptian authorities and operates exclusively in Cairo.
At the same time, foreigners flying by domestic Egyptian airlines from the capital to other cities in the country must pay only $ 4. This innovation was adopted at the end of May by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The duty does not apply to tourists vacationing in Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh and other resort cities.
It is noteworthy that since May 1, the Egyptian authorities have increased the cost of an entry visa from $ 15 to $ 25. Thus, tourists traveling alone through Cairo will have to pay a total of $ 50 upon arrival and departure.
However, according to Russian host companies, this measure is unlikely to affect Russian tourists: after all the political events, their number in Cairo is extremely small, and practically no one considers this city as a possible «departure point».
