One of Egypt’s major landmarks, the ancient Egyptian Sphinx on the Giza plateau, reopened after restoration, foreign news agency Yahoo reported.
The fact is that the sphinx has to be restored regularly due to the influence of polluted air and groundwater. Tourists will also be able to visit for the first time a small temple built next to the Sphinx by Pharaoh Amenhotep II. However, the exact date of the opening of the territory around the Sphinx has not yet been determined. In addition, the restoration of the Pyramid of Mikerin, the smallest of the pyramids of Giza, has been completed and will open to visitors on Monday.
We add that the restoration work began in August. During this time, experts cleaned the body of the Sphinx from salts, the harmful effect of which threatens the integrity of the monument. The most vulnerable parts of the sculpture — the chest and neck — were also strengthened.
