The ban on the use of disposable tableware began to operate in Hurghada. Tourists will have to do without plastic cups and plates — as well as bags, cutlery and cocktail straws. The motivation for the bans is ecological: plastic, in large quantities carried by the wind into the sea, harms corals and other marine life.
In this case, it is supposed to replace plastic dishes with paper ones. While it is distributed free of charge to sellers and tourists.
Recall that the ban was announced back in April. It will cover restaurants, supermarkets, grocery stores and pharmacies, as well as cruise ships that dock off the coast of the province. In addition, of course, the ban was introduced in the hotels of Hurghada. The ban will include plastic bags, disposable tableware and cocktail straws, bottles and other plastic.
The law is scheduled to be introduced in June. It was first proposed by the Hurghada Environmental Protection Association for the protection of “endangered species”. At the same time, the association plans to launch campaigns across the province to clean up plastic debris from islands, beaches and diving sites. At the same time, in this way, Egypt expects to receive «more tourists who care about the environment.»
Note that the «landscape with packages» and earlier made a painful impression on tourists. Plastic bags carried away by the wind polluted not only the streets and beaches, but also the desert for tens of kilometers around.
