The new building of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo is due to start working in the last quarter of 2020. The new museum will be able to present to tourists more than 50 thousand genuine artifacts of Ancient Egypt.
The exact opening date has not yet been announced. Let us remind you that the completion of the construction of the museum has been postponed for several years, but at the moment it is stated that the work is 90% completed. It is expected that the opening of the museum will be announced at the highest level by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi.
At the same time, ticket prices have already been announced. For tourists, a visit to the museum will cost $ 25. For local people, prices are traditionally much cheaper. At the moment, in the museum on Tahrir Square, the cost of visiting for tourists is about $ 10.
The new museum promises to show artifacts from the burial of Tutankhamun in a single exhibition, as well as many huge statues that have already been transported to the new building. By the way, it was the prospect of opening a museum that allowed Cairo to take a place in the list of 10 best cities to visit in 2020 from Lonely Planet.
✈ While charters to Egyptian resorts are not officially allowed, the question arises: is it possible for a Russian tourist to legally rest in Hurghada or Sharm el-Sheikh now? It turns out you can — with a flight through Cairo. It is somewhat more expensive than direct charter flights, but it is also quite affordable.
