The Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT) calls on tour operators to warn Russian tourists going on vacation to Egypt about the requirements for the validity of foreign passports. So, over the past two weeks, several tourists from Russia were denied registration for a flight to the Egyptian direction due to the insufficient validity of their passports. Egypt has tightened controls, and now, when traveling to Egypt, it is necessary that the passport expires at least 6 months after the intended return. As TASS reported with reference to the press secretary of the PCT Irina Tyurina, airlines are the initiators of the removal of tourists from the flight.
According to Irina Tyurina, carriers return the tourist to their homeland at their own expense and pay a fine for violating the prescribed rules. “Usually, Egypt took on vacation almost everyone, regardless of the validity of the passport. On the websites of tour operators, information on this matter is contradictory — someone has enough two months, someone writes about six months. But for tourists who were not allowed to take off by airlines, the validity of their passports expired two to three months after the planned date of their return, ”the expert noted.
According to the official information of the Egyptian Embassy in Moscow, to enter the country, a passport must be valid for at least six months from the date the tourist returns to Russia. Note that the deadline is also indicated in the Timatic system — the database of the International Aviation Transport Association, which contains information on the necessary documents of passengers when crossing the state border. According to Irina Tyurina, this system is used by all self-respecting airlines, they post the necessary information for tourists on their websites.
The expert also noted that tour operators need to inform on their websites about the requirements of Egypt and warn tourists about the required validity period of the passport, otherwise the travel agency will bear responsibility for disrupting the trip.
